I bought this Laura Ashley lamp back in the late 80's when there were stores in the US and one was located close to my home. I can remember loving to shop there; I even wallpapered my bedroom with a huge floral LA wall paper. After we moved from that house, our former neighbors told us they saw the stripped wallpaper hanging out of the garbage can along the street lol. Anyway, this lamp had been sitting in the basement storage since we moved into our current home.
It's mate was there too.
They were the master bedroom lamps in our former home. I had thought about taking them to Goodwill, or giving them to Ashleigh for her place someday. Then I thought about bringing one to school to use in my clinic office. But after I placed one on the kitchen counter, I wondered if the pair could work in the kitchen and offer some other kind of mood lighting.
So I tried them out while Dan was out of town and kind of liked having them there. I wondered if he would notice them upon his return home. Would you believe the first thing he said when he entered the kitchen was "I like the lamps!"
And he has mentioned it a few times since. So the lamps will stay in the kitchen for now. Perhaps in the summer when I have more time from being off school I will explore new lampshades for them. We have all kinds of lighting in the kitchen, but there seems to be something special about having the two lamps lit in the evening hours.
I love it when I can give old things new life. Do you?
I still have two of these lamps in my home. The bases are cream and they have new shades - again from Laura Ashley and I love the. They are classic. I went last week to L.A. to look for new lamps for another room - non were as pretty. x

ReplyDeleteI love it when people place little lamps on their kitchen counters. :D I loved shopping at Laura Ashley. I miss the stores! I went to college in England in the eighties for a few months, and all the American girls brought home Laura Ashley dresses (this was before we had stores here).

I love the look of lamps in the kitchen, and yours look warm and lovely. I'm so glad that you took the time to see them in a new light (haha) before sending them on their way! (And kudos to your husband for noticing them! My husband complimented something I had done to the house the other day, and he would NOT believe me that it had been there for over a month already!)
