Angel Transformation

Each month I am posting some type of Christmas holiday decoration I am making in preparation for December 2013. In January, I posted about a Christmas stocking I sewed from a Goodwill sweater. This month I want to tell you about another find from Goodwill, a beautiful 15 inch high resin angel I picked up for a couple of bucks.

This is how she looked when I found her. I envisioned her being painted gold or brown.

When I first saw her, I thought of the Pottery Barn wings.

Also, I had seen these angels at Hobby Lobby and liked the finish on them.

I am not a painter; I have very little experience with paint. But you bloggers, my friends, have inspired me to try new things. I sprayed her with this satin brown paint but felt I needed to do something further with her. I almost forgot to take a picture before I moved on.

I had some white craft paint from another project and decided to try it to see how she would look.

I did like her and wondered if I should put something else on top of the paint, like wax. Like I said, I don't know much about this process and would welcome suggestions.

When I put her in our great room, I found that she was too white and stark for the room. I thought about spraying her brown again and putting a creamy or golden paint on to tone her down so she would fit in better with our colors.

So I spray painted with the brown again but decided to keep her that way for now. I like her with the gold lamp.

Who knows what could happen to this beautiful Goodwill angel. She could change colors again at any time! But, I must admit, I don't plan on sending her to the closet anytime soon, even though she was meant to be a holiday decoration!  You can read more about her here.

  1. You know, it's all a process, isn't it! I have done that before and used to think I ruined whatever it was I was working on. Only to remember, it's just paint so have at it again. Such a perfect angel and am impressed you are getting ready for Christmas 2013!

  3. Wow, you really are committed to Christmas, I am overwhelmed!
But the paint job is very nice, indeed - and even if it looks horrible, just wait until the paint is dry, perhaps you'll change your mins :) - not that you need another transformation for the beautiful angel!

  9. Haha! I was just thinking as I was reading, that I wouldn't put her away now that Christmas is over. And then I got to the end and saw that you are thinking the same thing. : )
Patty, you are the winner in my GYB drawing for the Dancing Swan print. You can find a tab to email me on my blog. If you'll send me a mailing address, I'll get her flying off to you in the next few days. Congratulations!

  10. I love how she turned out! I would have passed by such a statue at Goodwill, but now that I've seen what you did, I'll be watching for one! I can't believe the difference!!

  11. I liked her both ways. If you had left her white, you wouldn't need to put any wax on the craft paint. It holds up quite well. If you wanted to put her outside, you would have needed to coat it with something like Varathane.

  13. You did a beautiful job on her, Patty. Wax would add a nice sheen if you wanted that. But she looks lovely just as she is!

  17. Well done Patty she's a beautiful angel and you've enhanced her in a very special way, she looks very at home by your lovely gold lamp!

I must say I take my hat off to you for your wonderful organisational skills - I think I'll try and follow your lead and start preparations too - it's never too early! I can't bear the stress of too much to do as Christmas approaches.
I want to make my own cards this year and I always make many bits and bobs for my sweet granddaughters!! Then there are little gifts I will make for blogging friends too!

Thank you for your inspiration dear Patty! I'm off to create my "to do" list and search Google for some ideas - how does that make you feel?
