The Seamstress Has Arrived!

My Brother sewing machine was delivered last evening! I was very eager to use it but contained myself enough to read the instruction booklet first. I don't have a good track record with reviewing instruction books because they are usually too thick! This one was perfect though in that it just gave me the information I needed to get started quickly. It's been years since I sewed, but the skills returned as if I hadn't ever stopped sewing at all!

Today I sewed my first project, getting familiar with some of the overcast stitches of the machine. I finished off some fabric scraps I like to take with me when I shop so I can match colors with my home. Whenever I had furniture reupholstered or custom ordered I asked to have the fabric scraps saved for me. Along with the shopping reason just mentioned, the scraps could be made into pretty things to coordinate with my home furnishings (a Christmas stocking? little pillows? jewelry pouches?)

I have all this leftover fabric that I have been dying to cut up with which to make something. I am so excited to finally have a new sewing machine!

Now when I go shopping I can see what shade of brown is in my great room, 

or in the bedroom...

and I can see what type of animal print I have. 

I just happened to have this big pin sitting out and thought I could keep the pieces together with it! 

Here is the Vogue wedding dress I sewed for our wedding in 1978.

So we know I have the skills - now let's get sewing!
